    Sadans constitute around 60% of the total population of Jharkhand. Generally, non-tribals
    are called Sadan but in actuality it is not so because all non-tribals are not Sadan. Sadans
    are the original non-tribal people of Jharkhand. According to the origin of  words, the word
    Sadan is a word of the Nagpuri language. Sadan, like Adivasis are also original inhabitants     
    of Jharkhand. They settled down in Jharkhand centuries ago and have become an integral part
    of theculture of Jharkhand.  It is believed that Sadan made their entry in Jharkhand since
    ancient times.It is believed that some Sadans settled down in Jharkhand even before the
    Adivasis.           
        
     According to historians. Sadans were Aryans, who, settled down in Jharkhand in different
    periods of history.All Sadans do not have the same religion. They comprise of people
    belonging to Hindu, Muslim, Baudh, Jain and other religions.Sadan tribes are related to the
    Aryans and Dravidians. Sadans are divided into many castes and sub-castes viz., Rautiya,
    Baraik,Dhanuk, Pan, Parmanik, Tanti, Swansi, Bhuiyan, Kosta, Jhora, Raksel, Ghasi,
    Gosai, Bargaha, Bauri, Bhant, Bind, Gorait, Kandu, Lohondia, Khadit, Sarak,Malar, Kalwar,
    Momin etc.There is clear influence of tribal culture on Sadan culture.   Many elements of tribal
    culture are incorporated in the social and cultural life of Sadans, as a result of assimilation.
          
             The language, life style, religious beliefs, eating, drinking are very similar to the tribals.  
    The  of Phool, Karamdyer, Mita and Sahiya are still alive in Sadans. Sadans mainly speak
    Nagpuri, Kurmali, Khortha and Panch Paragania, which are according to one opinion
    derivatives of Bhojpuri and Magahi language. The language of Sadans is called Sadani or
    Sadari.  There -are many social layers in the Sadan society but there is mutual understanding
    and co-operation among the different castes of Sadan. The main source of livelihood of
    Sadans is Agriculture. It is quite common for a Hindu Sadan to worship Gods and
    Goddesses.  As in Adivasis, the staple food of Sadans is rice. Cereals Like Madua, Maize,
    Pulses etc. Cereals are also used. Sadans too consume handia (Liquor extracted from rice).
    Hindu Sadar,s worship different Gods and Godesses. Gener: 'Y, they are devotees of Shiv.
    They believe that the wrath of Gods & Goddess results in cholera, smallpox. Thus they worship
    Godess Sheetala. Religious tolerance is found in Sadans. They do not have religious bigotry
    or communalism.The activities and religious faith ofHindu Sadmts are influenced by tribal
    religion. Main traditional festivals of Sadan are - Karam, Teej, Mansa, Jeetiya, Sheetla,Tusu,
    Sohrai (Dipawali), Phagua, Sarhul and Barpahari.
     
                Rath Yatra, Dair Yatra, Ramrekha fair, Tusu Fair, Id Fair are famous. Panchayat
    (Arbitration) is organized in order to solve the problems.occurring in the Sadan Society.       
    Sadan society is patriarchal (male dominated).Sadans have adopted the prevalent folk
    dances and songs of the tribes of Jharkhand. Just as in tribes, Chhoh (Chhau) and Paika
    (Painki) are very popular dances of Sadans. Thus, in the development of composite cultural
    heritage of Jharkhand, the cultural contact between the Sadans and the tribes of Jharkhand
    played an important role.'
