    Sohrai of the Santhals is celebrated with grand
    festivity. It is preceded by Dansai.
    Dansai coincides with Durga Puja while Sohrai is
    celebrated immediately after Diwali or Kali Pujn.
    Dansai is a dance festival. though not an elaborate
    ritual function. A small ritualistic act is observed
    before the dance begins at akhara.
    Sohrai is known for the care of domestic animals
    such as cows and buffaloes. Since these animals


    Sarhul is the spring festival where sal tree and
    leaves play an important role. Sal flowers are
    brought to  their sacred place and pahan.
    symbol of Karam god, are worshipped by the
    sisters. These are cannnoniousIv immersed in a
    local pond or river Iha next day. The Youth sing
    and dance all through the night during karant, a
    popular festival of the alma.


    Hijala Mela:

    •        This fair is held near Dumka on the banks of the Mayurakshi river.
    •        It is a historical fair of the Santhali tribe.
    •        With the advent of the Spring Season, this fair is held for a week.
    •        The then British Commissioner, Kastairs, of the Santhal Paraganas started
            this fair in 1890.
    •        Hijala word is an abbreviated form of a mineral named "Hijlopait". It is found
           here in abundance in the hilly area. This fair enriches the cultural heritage of
            this area.
          
     Shrawani Mela:

    •        This fair is held every year at Deoghar, in the month of shrawan. It is the
            biggest human fair of the world.
    •        With the beginning of the shrawan month, the Shiv devotees across India as
            well as of neighbouring countries come here to offer prayer.
         
      Sarhul:

    •        It is the most important festival of the Adivasis.
    •        It is celebrated just before cultivation begins.
    •        This festival is celebrated on the third day of the bright half of the lunar
            month, Chaitya.
    •        In this festival, "Pahan" (priest) worships "Sarna".
    •        The place where Sarhul phool (flo er) is immersed is called "Giriya".
    •        This festival is known by Munda, raon and Santhal tribes as Sarhul, Khaddi
            and Baha respectively
