Jharkhand is endowed with vast
natural resources specially the vast variety of
minerals ranging from Iron ore, Coal, Copper
ore, Mica, Bauxite, Fire clay, Graphite, Cyanate,
Sillimanite, Lime stone, Uranium & other
minerals. Jharkhand is the leading producer
of mineral wealth in the country. The total
value of mineral production is amounted to
over thousands of crores. It holds an important
place in the production of Asbestos, Quartz
and Nuclear minerals. 36 % of the nation's
minerals are found in the plateau regions of
Jharkhand. Most ofthe minerals are obtained
    from "Dharwar" and "Vindhya" regions.

Iron Ore: The Iron Ore found in Jharkhand is obtained from the rocks of the "Dharwar" series.
The Iron Ore found in Jyarkhand is of Hematite type in which, 60-68 % iron is found .Here, there
is a total reserve of 29,720 lakh tones of Iron Ore. It is equivalent to one fourth of the total
reserve of the country. Every year, 120 lakh tonnes of steel is produced in the state. Iron is
mainly produced from Gua of Singhbhum district to Gunai in Orissa. It is also called the "Big
Jamda Complex". Important mines of iron ore are located in Noamundil,Panchsera, Buru, Gua,
Jamda, Kamarpat, Ghatpur, and Kiriburu etc.
The Noamundi mines are the largest iron-ore mines of Asia.

Manganese:  Manganese is obtained from the rocks of the Dharwar series. Besides
production of steel, it is used in making of batteries, various colours and chemicals. Manganese
is found mainly in three areas. They are- (1) between Gua and Limtu, (2) between Chaibasa
and Bada Jamda and (3) between Bada Jamda and Noamundi. The total production of
Manganese in Jharkhand is 6840 tonnes.

Copper:  Considering the production and reserves of Copper, Jharkhand is the leading state
    of India.

Bauxite :  Jharkhand has a large reserve of Bauxite. It
is the only source of Aluminium. Jharkhand has a total of
611 -lakh tonnes of reserve of Bauxite, which is about 9.7%
of India's total deposit. The mining of Bauxite is done in the
plateau areas of Lohardaga and Latehar. Aluminium is
produced from Bauxite. The biggest plant to melt Bauxite
is situated in Muri. Jharkhand holds the second position in
the production of Bauxite in India.

Chromite, Chromium :  This metal is found only in Jharkhand. It is used in making stainless
steel. Jharkhand produces 14 % of the total production of India. Besides, it is used in many
chemical industries. It is found in the Singhbhum district and its annual production is 2000 tonnes

Mica:   Jharkhand has many non-metallic minerals of which the main one is Mica. It is an
insulator of electricity. Hence, it is mostly used in this industry. The Mica of Jharkhandis
considered to be of a good quality "Moscowhite" and is in demand all over theworld.
Jharkhand has a total reserve of 17,8001akh tonnes of Mica, which is 46.51% of the total
reserve of India. Annual production of Mica is 9501akh tonnes.
Koderma, Giridih and Hazaribagh are the world famous trade centers of Mica.

Limestone: Limestone is used in the Iron and Steel and Cement industries. It is found in the
    Palamau district of Jharkhand.

Kynite : Jharkhand has a reserve of 113 81akh tonnes of Kynite, which is, 4.5 % of the total of
lndia's deposits. It is used as a refractory material. It is used in the production of porcelain
vessels. India is the biggest producer of Kynite and Jharkhand is the leading state in its
production. The biggest reserve ofKynite is located in Lapsaburu where, annually, 28,000
    tonnes of Kynite is produced.

Graphite : Jharkhand has a reserve of 5.31akh tonnes of Graphite, which is 17.19 % of the
total reserve of India.  Annual production of Graphite is 99.06 tonnes. Graphite deposits are

Sone Valley and Rajmahal. In the Damodar Valley,
coal-mining areas are Jharia, South and North
Karnapura, East and West Bokaro and Ramgarh.
In the Sone Valley, coal is extracted from Auranga,
Hutar and Medinagar.Besides Ramgarh, coal is
also produced from the nearby mines in Deoghar.
The coal extracted here is bituminous coal whereas that extracted from Jharia is coking coal.
Coking coal is used in the iron and steel industry. 98 % of the coal, used for making coke in
    India, is present in Jharkhand.

Tungsten :Tungsten is mainly used in the production of high tempered steel and the
