•        The  rebellian of 1857 began in Jharkhand on 12th June 1857 in the village Rohini in Deogarh district,
     with the soldiers rebelling in the army.
•        Army’s 32nd regiment , under the leadership of Major Mcdonald had camped In this village .
•        Three soldiers in this regiment had rebelled and murdered Lt. Norman Lesli.
•        Soldiers of Hazaribagh and Ramgarh revolted on 30th July and Ranchi was the main centre of the
     rebellion.
•        Ranchi was the headquarter of the Ramgarh battalion during this rebellion.
•        Main centres of the 1857 rebellion were Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Chutupali Valley, C'hatara, Palamau and
    Chaibasa.
•        Ranchi’s Vishwanath Shahdev, Tikait Umraon Singh, Pandey Ganpat Roy, Shekh Bhikari,
    Hazaribagh's Jagatlal Singh, Ramgarh battalion's Jiamangal Madho Singh, Doranda battalion's
    Jaimangal Pandey, and Nadir Ali, Por3rhat's (singhbhum) king Arjun Singh, Vishrampur's Chero
    Sardar lih,rwani Roy, Palamu's Neelambar & Peetambar and many other leaders played a prominent
    role in the 1857 uprising.
•        A historic battle was fought on 2nd October, 1857 between the forces of Major English and Jaimangal
    Pandey & Nadir Ali, which speaks of Jharkhand's contribution in the freedom struggle.
•        On 4th October, 1857, Jaimangal Pandey and Nadir Ali were hanged to death
    from a mango tree near Pansihari pond (Chatra) by the order of Simson, deputy commissioner. A
    memorial has been built here.
•        Ormanjhi’s Tikait Umraon Singh and his Deewan Sheikh Bhikhari were hanged to death publicly from a
    tree on 8th January, 1858 Chutupalu Ghati.
•        English Major Neshan succeeded in arresting Thakur Vishwanath Shahdev and Pandey Ganpat Roy
    in March 1858 with the help of two traitors, Lohardaga’s landlord Mahesh Narayan Shahi and
     Vishwanath Dubey in the forests of Kakrang Ghat near Lohardaga.
•        Thakur Vishwanath Shahdev and Pandey Ganpat Roy were hanged to death on the gate of Zila
     School, Ranchi in April 1858.
•        Neelambar and Peetambar led this rebellion in Palamau.
•        Neelambar and Peetambar had formed a military squad with the Bhogtas, Khakhars and Cheros.
•        Singhbhum’s king of Porahat, Arjun Singh played a major role in this struggle.
•        During 1857 rebellion Captain Okas was the Dy. Commissioner of Dhanbad and Simpson was Dy.
    Commissioner of Hazaribagh.
