TILKA MANJHI : • Tilka Manjhi was born in a santhal family (Murmu) on l lth February 1750 at Tilakpur village in Sultanganj PS. • He struggled against British rule from 1771 to 1784. • He led the revolt to oppose collection of taxes. • Tilka revolted against the suppression policy of the British and killed Cleveland with an arrow on 13th Feb., 1784. • His revolt couldn't stand longer due to lack of resource: The British army caught and hanged him to death. BHAGIRATH MANJHI • He was the first tribal leader who exploited the frustration and anger of the Bhumij tribes against the British government. • He belonged to the Kharwar tribe. • He was born in a village named Tarhita in Godda district. • He led the Kharwar movement in 1874. • Buddhu Bhagat was born in Silagai village of Chanho block in Ranchi BUDDHU BHAGAT ( KOL MOVEMENT ) • Buddhu bhagat was born in Silagai village of Chanho block in Ranchi, district on 17th feb., 1792 in a Uraon family. • He led the "Latka Revolt" (Hul Revolt) against the Zamindars, British rule, and its supporters. • He showed unparalleled valour and courage. • He fought a fierce battle against the British at Pidauriya, Bundu, Tamar etc. • Buddhu Bhagat was killed on 14th Feb., 1832. BIRSA MUNDA : • Birsa Munda was born on 15th Nov., 1875 in Ulihatu village in a Munda family. • He led the "Ulgulan Revolt". • He instructed his followers to worship "Sing-bonga" in place of different Gods (Bongas) • This religious movement was transformed into a political movement of the Munda Tribe. • In 1899, he insinuated revolt against Christian missionaries and the British in Khunti, Torpa, Tamad, Karra etc. • The British administration captured and jailed him in March, 1900. He died on 9th June, 1900 of Cholera. • Today, he is worshipped as God. SIDDHU AND KANHU • Siddhu and Kanhu were born in a Santhal family in Bhagnadih. • Their father's name was Chunni Manjhi. • They led the "Santhal Revolt" in 1855-56 against sahukars, businessman and Zamindars. • Ultimately they were captured by the English administration and hanged to death. SHEIKH BHIKHARI • The name of Amar Saheed Sheikh Bhikhari is written in golden letters in the Indian history. • He was born in 1819 in Khadia village under Ormanjhi police station of Ranchi district. • He played the leading role in 1857 revolt. • He was arrested by the British government on 6th Jan., 1858 • He was sentenced to death on 7th Jan., and hanged on 8th Jan., 1858 . RAZA THAKUR VISHWANATH SHAHDEV • He was born on 12th Aug, 1817 in Barkagarh's capital Satranji. • His Father's name was Raghunath Shahdev and Mother's name was Waneshwari Kuwanr. • He extended full co-operation to rebellious soldiers during the 1857 revolt. • He was arrested by the British administration on 30th march, 1858 because of his treacherous friends. • He was hanged to death on the gate of Zila School, Ranchi. PANDEY GANPAT RAI : • Pandev Ganpat Rai was born in the village Bhauron of Lohardaga district on : "th Jan., 1809. • He took part in 1857 revolt with Vishwanath Sahdeo. • Rrbels declared Sahdeo as king and Ganpat Rai as Commandant. • He played a leading role to torch Barwa Police Station. • When he was about to attack the Lohardaga Police Station, he was arrested. • He was hanged with Thakur Vishwanath Shahdeo., NILAMBER - PITAMBER : • Nilamber and Pitamber were two great freedom fighters of Palamau who fought against the British Government. • They were proficient in Guerilla Warfare. • They took part in the 1857 revolt with Chero kings. • They were arrested by Dalton and later hanged to death. TIKAIT UMRAON SINGH : • He was born in Khantaga Village of `Ormanjhi Block'. • He had a brother named - Tikait Ghasi Singh. • He challenged the British rule in the 1857 revolt of his brother and revolutionary leader Sheikh Bhikhari. • Later he was arrested and hanged to death on 8th Jan., 1858 with Sheikh Bhikhari. BABU RAMNARAYAN SINGH : • Babu Ramnarayan Singh was born in Tetariay Village (Chatra District) on 19th Dec., 1885. • The great freedom fighter Babu Ramnarayan Singh took part in Non - Violent movement at the appeal of Mahatma Gandhi by relinquishing advocacy. He served the country for his whole life. • He tolerated tremendous torments and imprisonment from 1921 to 1944. • Mahatma Gandhi denominated him as "Chotanagpur Kesari" at Ramgarh Conference in 1940. • After independence, he was elected as MP for the 'Loksabha'. • His famous book -'Swarajya Loot Gaya' is an inspiration even today. KRISHANA BALLABH SAHAY : • Freedom Fighter K. B. Sahay played on active role in the Freedom Struggle in India. • K B Sahay was made secretary of the Bihar Branch of Swarajya party in 1923. • As the Land Revenue Minister of Bihar he initiated the execution of Zamindari abolition Act. |
