• Kharia, Birhor and Asur are the oldest tribes of Chotanagpur. • Munda, Oraon and Ho tribes came to Jharkhand later. • Korva's appeared between the ancient times and the later times. • Chero, Kharwar, Bhumij and Santhal tribes came after the arrival of Munda, Oraon and Ho tribes. • Thus the historical order of the arrival of tribes is : Kharia, Birhor, Asur, Korva, Munda, Oraon, Ho,Chero, Khervar, Bhumij, Santhal. • Kharia and Birhor probably had entered Chotanagpur via the hills of Kaimoor. They were the first among the tribes to enter Chotanagpur like Birijia and Asur. • Munda tribe's entry route and time are not ascertained. According to Mundas' traditional belief they had entered the Rohtas region and later Chotanagpur after the spread of the Aryans. Later the Mundas contributed in establishing the historical Nag dynasty. • The people of Oraon tribe probably belonged to South India, and wandering through many regions they arrived in Chotanagpur. One of the two segments of the Oraons settled near Rajmahal. Their descendants are today's Maler tribe. Some people of the second segment settled in Palamau, and the remaining came to Chotanagpur. • By 1000 BC, except the Cheros, Kharwars and Santhals, all the remaining tribes had settled in Chotanagpur. |
