    •        Roads are an important means of transportation in Jharkhand
    •        Roads of Jharkhand are divided into - 1. National Highways
                                                         2. State Highways
                                                         3. District Roads
                                                         4. Village Road

    National Highways (NH-1):

    •        The total length of national highways in the State is 1656.26 Km.
    •        NH-33 is the largest NH of the State. Its length in the state is 333.5 Km
    •        The ministery of Road Transport and Highways is responsible for the development and
              maintenance of national highways.

    State Highways:

    •        State Highways link different towns within the state and the National Highways.
    •        The length of such highways in the state is 3070.1 km.

    District Roads :

    •        These roads link different parts of districts in the state and are maintained by local bodies.

    Village Roads :

    •        Village roads link different villages with district roads and state highways.These are constructed
             and maintained by REO, BDOs, Municipal corporations, municipalities etc.










    Railways:

    •        Railway line was first laid down in Jharkhand in the second half of 19th century.
    •        Many important trains like, Rajdhani Exp., Geetanjali Exp., Purushotam Exp., pass through the
             state.
    •        Many districts of the state are still not connected with the railway.

    Airways :

    •        The first airport of Jharkhand was established in 1941 at Ranchi.
    •        Ranchi is connected by air with Patna, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
    •        Jharkhand has only one big airport (Birsa Munda) at Ranchi.
    •        There are airstrips available in Jamshedpur, Medninagar. Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Giridih,
    Bokaro,          Dumka, Deoghar and Noamundi.
